An incomplete cast copper alloy seal matrix of probable 17th century date. The seal has an oval bezel which is plano-convex in section, from the top of which protrudes the remains of the handle. This takes the form of a circular-sectioned collar which tapers to a triangular element, at the top of which is an old break. The exact form of the seal handle cannot be identified, though the now missing terminal end would likely have taken the form of a trefoil with an upper hole for suspension. On the underside of the bezel, the design of a rampant griffin, left, is visible within a lozengi…

An incomplete pointed oval seal matrix, dating to c. 1200-1400. The front of the matrix depicts a central fleur-de-lis like design or similar floral motif, with the legend around, separated from the central design by a solid linear border. The legend is well preserved and relatively easy to comprehend. It appears to read; + S' ALICIE' FIL' RICARDI (Sigillum Alicie Filia Ricardi), 'the seal of Alicia, daughter of Richard'. In cross-section the matrix is sub plano-convex, and the reverse has been decorated with a raised cross cast in sharp relief, at one end of which a flattened suspens…

An incomplete and bent cast lead vesica type seal of Medieval date, dating c. 1250-1400. The seal is pointed-oval in shape and is missing its rounded lug which would have projected from one end. The reverse of the seal is plain and undecorated, while the front consists of an inner decorated sub-oval central panel containing an incuse stylised fleur-de-lys design within an oval linear border, around which the legend of the seal (some of which is illegible) is inscribed. This can be read anticlockwise as possibly; +SIGILLV[M?]...PIO.. , which can be broadly translated as 'The seal of pi…
