A complete Early medieval copper alloy strap end, of Thomas' Class E, type 1, probably dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The strap end is tongue shaped in plan, decorated with a symetrical openwork Winchester-style plant-scroll consisting of a central longitudinal stem bifurcating into four scrolling fronds. There is a transverse collar defining the recessed attachment end, with three circular perforations. Length: 45 mm, Width: 24 mm, Weight: 15.8 g. A complete early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver sceat issued at Ribe, Denmark (c. 675 - c. 750). Series X, Type 31 (Abramson 2006: 15 and 74; North 1994: 65, ref: 117). Obverse: Facing, radiate, Wodan head with chevron beard, cross pommée either side. Line border within beaded border. Reverse: Monster in flight left, looking back, gaping jaws biting raised triple-forked tail, pellet below head. Prominent member and clawed feet below. Line border within beaded border. Spink 843.
