A Roman silver bracelet, now broken in two, with a twisted hoop and hinged bezel. The distorted elliptical hoop comprises a fine and evenly-twisted, tightly-spiralled tube made from circular-sectioned silver wire. Quite heavy wear is visible on both sides of the hoop. What appears to be the central core, around which the wire was spiralled, is visible under magnification in those places where distortion has slightly 'opened' the twisted strands, but its composition is uncertain. Each terminal is enclosed in a tubular collar which is decorated with an applied central meander filigre…

A cast copper-alloy Medieval mirror case dating to the 14th-15th century AD. The lid is circular in plan and flat in section, with a concave circular recession to the underside. To one end of the lid are two integrally cast 'D' shaped in profile lugs, which are secured with a horizontal circular in section pin; the hinge from the now absent base would be secured here. To the opposing end of the lid a single curved lug is maintained which would have fastened the seal box lid to the base when closed. The upper surface of the lid is decorated with fine indentations in pairs of lines; on…

A worn and corroded fragment of a late Roman cast copper-alloy bracelet dating to c. AD 250-410. The fragment exhibits moderate curvature but has broken short of the intended length at both ends. This fragment is broadly oval in section, although a narrow portion of the internal surface is flattened and might once have suggested a 'D' shaped section prior to the action of wear and corrosion on the bracelet. The outer surface of the bracelet has been decorated with a series of continuous transverse grooves resulting in a ridged appearance. This artefact has a light to mid green colour,…
