A cast copper alloy Medieval buckle of Meols Type 4, dating from the late 14th century. This is a single looped buckle of oval form with a D-shaped frame and an offset, narrowed bar. In the centre of the bar is a small, notch for accommodating the pin, but the pin itself is missing. The edge of the frame has a projecting lip which is also notched for the pin rest. The buckle has a dark grey patina with a few small areas of red-brown corrosion, perhaps suggesting the pin was iron. For a reference see Griffiths, D. et al. A Post Medieval Buckle cast from copper alloy. It is double looped with sub rectangular loops. The ends of the frame are rounded and the sides are scalloped. The pin and plate are missing. Compare number 443 on page 71 of Whitehead's Buckles. This suggests a date of 1600 - 1720.

A Post Medieval (probably 1575-1700) asymmetrical doubled looped buckle cast in copper alloy. The buckle is bevelled on the front face with a narrow strap bar in the middle. One loop is rounded and the other loop is squared at the end. There is evidence of where the buckle has been tinned; there is no other decoration present.
The buckle is 25.74mm in length, 17.50mm in width, 2.3mm in thickness and weighs 2.62grams.

A Post Medieval Doubled Looped Asymmetrical buckle made of cast copper alloy. It has six lobes on the outside edge of the rectangular loop. There are also lobed knops at two symmetrical points on the outer edge of the rounded loop and a lobed protrusion at either end of the strap bar.
The buckle is 23.20mm in length, 18.30mm wide, 2.20mm in thickness and weighs 2.66grams.

A Post Medieval Buckle dating from AD 1575-1700 and made of cast copper alloy. It is double looped and asymmetrical with one trapezoid and one D shaped loop. The D shaped loop has a projection from the outer edge which is in the shape of an acorn. There is a slight knop at each end of the bar. The buckle is in good condition and is without any decoration.
It is 27.70mm in length, 1651mm in width, 3.63mm thick and weighs 2.30gm. The pin and plate are missing.

A worn, corroded and bent single-looped cast copper-alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is of oval form with a pin bar that is neither offset nor narrowed as is common. The pin is missing. The plain frame is flat with shallowly bevelled external sides. The upper surface is decorated with basic, spaced out diagonal grooves on the upper surface. The frame has corroded to a dark-green colour with traces of lighter green corrosion product. A buckle with similar decorative treatment can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 11; ref. 19). A cast copper alloy, Post Medieval shoe buckle dating from AD 1690 - 1720. The frame is curved, sub-rectangular in shape, with rounded corners, and is drilled to take a separate, ferrous spindle. The copper alloy chape remains in place. It has an iron rivet through the free end. The pin is missing. The buckle is plain with no decoration. It is 27.71mm long including the chape, 17.16mm wide and 4.24mm thick. It weighs 3.52grams.

A cast copper-alloy single loop buckle with a decorative plate. It has a D shaped frame with an expanded outer ednge and a knop at each end of the bar. The plate is folded round the bar and has recessed corners to accommodate the frame, and a slot for the pin. A copper alloy Medieval composite buckle, with a forked spacer, but most of the frame missing. It dates from the mid 14th to early 15th century (Egan and Pritchard). The frame would probably have been oval, but only the bar and part of one side survives. The breaks are worn and patinated. A cast copper alloy buckle with a drilled frame for a separate spindle, probably dating from the 18th century. The spindle is missing, but there is ferrous corrosion in the holes. The frame is rectangular with rounded corners and vesica shaped insides of the loops. The frame has snapped in one place, but is still all present. The patina is grey and dusty, with ferrous staining.

A cooper alloy Medieval spur buckle with an integral plate dating from about 1250 - 1400. The frame of the oval buckle is missing but the breaks are worn and patinated. There is a hole for the pin attachment - this has also worn through the to the loop of the buckle. It consists of one rounded corner of the frame, broken at both ends, both breaks being patinated. It is flat on the underside and slightly bevelled on the upper surface. There is no decoration visible. The fragment displays a patchy, light green patina. It is 29.87mm long, 6.94mm wide and 2.88mm thick. It weighs 3.14gm.

It is flat on the underside and slightly bevelled on the upper surface. There is no pin notch or other decoration visible. The fragment displays a dark brown patina. It is 25.02mm long, 4.05mm wide and 2.56mm thick. It weighs 1.82gm.

A fragment of a buckle, made from copper alloy using a casting method. The fragment is 22.74mm long, 7mm wide and 2.84mm thick. The majority of the buckle is missing, only the outer edge remains but the breaks do not appear to be fresh. The surfaces are smooth with concave sides. Part of an oval, cast copper alloy, medieval buckle of the composite type with a forked spacer, dating from 1350-1500. It consists of the oval looped frame and both arms of the forked spacer, the inner sides of which are stepped. In the centre of the outer edge of the loop is a pointed projection, the inner end of which is notched to take the pin. Between the inner ends of the spacer is a narrowed pin bar. The buckle displays a dark green patina. It is 35.43mm long, 27.61mm wide and 4.35mm thick. It weighs 6.12gm.

It is thicker on the inside of the loop, and has a groove round the outer edge on the upper face. It is probably part of an asymmetrical buckle like those on page 91 of Whitehead's Buckles.

Part of a copper alloy Post Medieval buckle probably dating from 1550 - 1650. Just less than half of the frame survives. It is a double looped buckle with vesica shaped loops and trilobed mouldings at the end of the bar and on the outer edge of the loop. The reverse is plain.
