Part of a set of copper alloy tweezers of uncertain date. They are of a type with flaring arms which are known from Roman to Medieval times, though it is suspected that the widest flaring arms date from the Middle Anglo-Saxon period (Geake, Finds Recording Guide). Only the terminal of one arm survives and it is bent into a U shape. The base of the arm is triangular and the very end turns inwards at an angle of about 45 degrees. The rest of the arm is rectangular in plan and is bent backwards on itself. The outer face is decorated with transverse moulded grooves. The break is patinat…

Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy Medieval strap end made from three pieces with a sheet spacer occupying the whole width. The strap end has an angled end at the closed end and is slightly rounded at the open end. The sheet spacer extends for two thirds of the length. It is presumably soldered in place. In the centre at the open end is a copper alloy rivet to fasten the two outer sheets to the strap. There is no decoration and the strap end has a mid green patina. Compare number 692 and 693 on page 147 of Egan and Pritchard which are dated from 1270 - 1350.

A copper alloy Medieval ring, probably a harness ring dating from 1100 - 1500. The sub-circular ring is hexagonal in section and varies in width seeming to be more worn on the inside of two opposing sides. File marks are visible on the ring which has a orange brown patina. A Medieval uniface lead alloy token. The design appears to be an uneven cross with flared arms outlined with curved relief lines, filled with hatching. This may be intended to be mill sails which would make it a Powell type 22, or could be a petalled flower (type 1). The token has a well developed white patina and probably dates from 1200 - 1600. A similar example is illustrated on page 23 (number 2 on row 6) of Fletcher (2005) Leaden Tokens and Tallies.
