A small copper alloy Roman coin; a nummus cut from a larger nummus of Magnentius (AD 350-353), SALVS DD NN AVG ET CAES, Chi-Rho type, dating from AD 352-353 (Reece Period 18). This appears to be cut from a regular coin, rather than being a copy of a cut-out coin. Such coins might have been made in the aftermath of the 354 decree that outlawed large nummi. However, it is also argued that such coins were made later in the 4th century. Compre LIN-3FC248 which cites Boon p. 145 and pl VIII, cf. 148. The coin is 9mm long, 8.1mm wide and 1.8mm thick. It weighs 0.8g.
