A fragment of a cast copper-alloy 'Sussex Loop' bracelet of Middle Bronze Age date, c. 1400-1250 BC. The fragment consists of one-half of one of the double loop strands, which is lozenge-shaped in cross-section and terminates in the flattened sub-oval terminal hook, which would have fitted the arm band to the other looped element of the bracelet. An incomplete cast copper-alloy possibly authentic Chinese hand cannon, discovered in an area known for having an old arms factory in the 19th century AD. It is therefore possible that this item was obtained in the Post Medieval or early Modern period as some form of collector's piece or study object. The item is roughly cylindrical with an off-centre basal lug and touch-hole, which connects a slightly smaller cylindrical segment which has a flat bottom connecting to the lug with a completely hollow slightly longer cylinder on the other end. Both ends taper slightly outwards at the…

An unidentified object of uncertain date and attribution. The object consists of a large conical sheet of copper alloy that has been turned into an open-ended cone, lined within by a thin curved piece of wood fixed in place by means of an irregularly shaped rivet on one side of the sheet with a similar circular rivet hole on the other side. The edge where the sheet has been turned into a cone and soldered into place is visible and there is some damage on that edge where the plate has been torn away from the solder line. The object has an uneven green colour and has areas of rough te…

The remains of the stirrup terminal consists of the solid-cast lower portion of the terminal with a small attached portion of its semi-circular sectioned open segment, now broken probably due to in situ damage. A portion of this open segment is visible on the reverse of the object, which has a triangular hollow to accommodate the diagonal arm of the stirrup. A very worn and debased cast copper-alloy fragment of an Early Medieval zoomorphic stirrup strap terminal of Anglo-Scandinavian association, c. AD 1050-1150. The object is pointed oval in shape and triangular in cross-section at both pointed ends, and hemispherical in cross-section at the centre. One pointed end is significantly larger than the other, but this is due to damage rather than purposeful shaping of the object. Instead of the usual zoomorphic features of ears, eyes and snout, the decoration has been limited to a debased version with just the central incised lattice and a se…

A Medieval silver short cross cut halfpenny of Richard I to John, probably dating from c. AD 1194-1205. North Class 4. Moneyer: Richard; Mint of London. Possibly Class 4b-4c. Cf. Wren p. 40; also North 1994 Vol I, pp. 220-221, nos. 968/1-968/3. This identification is based upon scant evident of a wildly pelleted obverse beard and coarsely constructed bust, within the usual semi-circular collar; these details, coupled with the style of the remaining lettering suggests that this coin must be of Wren Class 4.
