Object type: SPOON
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete late Medieval to early Post Medieval copper-alloy spoon, consisting of a 'fig-shaped' spoon bowl and a small fragment of connected stem, probably dating from the late 15th-early 17th century AD. The spoon bowl is quite deeply curved, with the distinctive fig-shape of spoons from this period and the stem is cast directly with the bowl, rather than with a 'rat's tail' addition or related decoration; the spoon stem is oval in cross-section. The spoon bowl has suffered damage along its perimeter edges and is mostly dark green in colour, with one area of reddish-brown discol…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A nearly complete flint knapped blade fashioned into a side scraper, probably dating to the Mesolithic period. The implement is knapped from medium brown translucent flint with some darker natural inclusions; a small area of opaque grey chert is visible on the ventral surface. Approximately 90% of the dorsal face is covered in chalky white-grey cortex and the scraping edge has been retouched with pressure flaking as well as light retouch to facilitate handling on the other lateral edge. The small bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples are visible on the ventral face, although corte…

Object type: BARBED AND TANGED ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An nearly complete barbed-and-tanged flint arrowhead of the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC-1500 BC). The arrowhead is fashioned from light grey-coloured flint with a small patch of milky white-patina on its ventral and dorsal surfaces. The arrowhead is sub-triangular in plan with only a small amount of one of its barbs and a small amount of the tang missing. Covering pressure flake removals are evident on both ventral and dorsal faces and the sharpened outer edges of the implement. It seems to be of the Sutton Type (cf. Butler 2005, Figs. 68-69). The arrowhead measur…

An incomplete barbed-and-tanged flint arrowhead of the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC-1500 BC). The arrowhead is fashioned from light brown-coloured flint and has a milky white-grey patina covering its ventral and dorsal surfaces. The remains of the arrowhead consist of a tapering sub-rectangular tang and a small portion of horizontally-oriented barbs, with traces of pressure flaking shaping the sides of the tang; most of the distal end of the arrowhead is missing with an old, similarly patinated break approximately halfway up the implement. Due to the lack of coveri…
