The head of a pin, probably dating from the Medieval period, AD 1150-1200. The head is made of lead-alloy, is flat, circular and is decorated on one side only. The decoration consists of a central, five-petalled rosette with three, possibly five arms radiating outward, with two openwork sections, on one of the arms there is evidence of rust in the form of a small pellet breaking through the surface of lead alloy suggesting the remains of an internal iron pin. An Early Medieval copper alloy pin probably dating from the 9th century. The head is polyhedral, taking the form of a cube with the corners cut off to produce thirteen faces. The four main faces have a single ring-and-dot motif as decoration. The top is flat and undecorated. The pin head is 8.12mm long and measures 6.13mm x 4.11mm. The shaft is probably incomplete. It is 23.05mm in length, 2.37mm in diameter and circular in section, is slightly bent and gently tapers down to the old, worn break. The pin has a smooth brown-green patina.
