A complete gold finger ring dating to the 16th-18th Century. The ring is circular in plan, complete, and has a D-shaped cross section. The decoration of the band consists of an applied gold hand which is itself incised with decorative patterns. The hand aspect has been created by repeated linear incising to form fingers, below which, on the wrist aspect is a more intricate geometric pattern. This object likely would have had a second hand, which would have clasped the first, which would identify it as a fede ring. The second hand has been lost, possibly in antiquity and likely caused …

Approximately 25% of the outside face of the ring is decorated; the central motif is a crude, incised skull. Either side of the skull there is some incised cross-hatching decoration which terminates in a point in the middle of the width of the band. The point has a star incised at that point. There are some traces of black enamel in the incised decoration although it is likely that there would have …

A gold posy ring of post medieval date, late 17th century to early 18th century. The ring is circular in plan with a D-shaped cross section. The outside of the ring is not decorated although there are a few marks, probably from depostion. The inside of the ring has an inscription in an italic script which reads "Love is the Bond of Peace". A complete gold posy ring dating to the post medieval period. The object is circular in plan and D-shaped in section. The edges of the ring are quite sharp suggesting that it was not worn for long before being lost. There is a little bit of damage to the ring, possibly from a plough. A gold finger-ring of Medieval date (AD 1300-1500). The object is a flat-sectioned strip of gold made into an incomplete ring. One of the two ends of the gold strip does not appear to be broken, and both ends have a central rectangular projection. This may suggest that the projection from the right-hand side is missing a loop into which the left-hand side projection would have secured - but no parallel is known for this. There is an inscription in black-letter script consisting of three words running along the outer surface. It is difficult to read, but Dr Malcolm Jones has seen an…

Fragment of gold jewellery with an oval glass intaglio within an oval gold setting which has a gold pellet at each corner. The back shows traces of a ring hoop which has been damaged then beaten flat against the back of the bezel, suggesting it was made as a finger ring and the repair was intended to give it an alternative use, possibly after damage. The intaglio has a bevelled edge and is of two-toned blue glass, with the standing figure of a female, facing right on a single ground line, incised through the pale blue upper layer. Each of the "petals" has a hammered pellet at each side and a central incised linear decoration which creates the impression of foliage .The reverse of the mount is slightly concave with a recessed aspect centrally which is the result of a broken projection/spur which would have been used to affix the mount to clothing. A similar example is illustrated in Egan, Dress Accessories, 2002, P 243, no 1297.

Part of a gold, Roman earring dating to the 1st or 2nd centuries AD. The earring consists of a double boss made up of two convex faces from a single sheet of metal. There are two small, granulated pellets which sit on the waist between the two bosses. There is no form of attachment but it is likely that there would have been gold wire soldered on. This earring is an Allason-Jones type 13b which normally has three pellets on the waist.
