A complete Early Post-Medieval cast copper alloy hooked clasp dress fastener, dating to c. AD 1600-1700.  Read Class A, Type 1 (with three attachment knops). An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy strap end, dating to c. AD 800-900.  Thomas Class A, Type 1. The strap end is long, sub-rectangular in plan, with curved sides which taper to a moulded zoomorphic terminal. An incomplete copper alloy Roman gilded oval plate brooch inset with intaglio of black glass, dating to c. Rim sherd from a probable medieval vessel, dating to c. AD 1066-1539.  The body fabric is a hard pale orange/buff colour, whilst the rim is a pale grey.  There are moderate inclusions which are variably sorted.  The  maximum size of the inclusions is 3mm, but smaller ones are in the majority.   The inclusions range from a dark orange colour to a creamy colour and are of flint or limestone and red iron ores.  There are four prick marks in the rim which may form part of the decoration.  The fragment  is 70.1mm in …

An incomplete Roman copper alloy gem set finger ring. Guiraud Type 2a, dating to the 1st- early 3rd century AD. The oval amber coloured glass stone has shattered in situ within the bezel (this measures 9.6mm x 12.8mm). The bezel is 3.3mm thick and merges into the hoop with tapering shoulders. AD 43-100.  Guiraud Type 1.  The finger ring is decorated around the oval, upstanding bezel with a geometric design of engraved triangles of two types - plain or stippled.  The bezel retains the remains of a dark brownish red stone or glass setting.  The patina of the finger ring is light grey green. An almost complete Medieval copper alloy sundial or compendium with sundial, compass and nocturnal (missing), dating to c. AD 1450-1500.  The find is circular in plan with a circular internal hinged hour ring which bears the remains of possibly Germanic Roman numerals in black letter script. The hour ring is held in place by a hinge on one side of the case and can be raised. This hour ring and the (now misplaced) gnomon would have lifted up to make an equatorial dial.
