A fragment of a cast copper alloy penannular brooch, probably dating to the sub-Roman, early Medieval period (5th to 7th Centuries AD).
Approximately 25% of the brooch is present and consists of one terminal and part of the hoop. The other terminal, pin and remaining part of the hoop are missing, presumably lost in antiquity. The break present on the hoop contains soil and is not recent in nature.
The hoop has a sub square cross section. The underside of the brooch is plain, but the upper surface exhibits a series of small V-shaped notches along the edge of the hoop toward…
