A complete, cast copper alloy prick spur, possibly dating to the Medieval period (1000-1500 AD). The spur is formed of a curved frame which would have been broadly U shaped in plan. One side is now bent into the middle of the curve. From the centre of the curve projects the thick neck, circular in section and terminating in a rounded knop that forms the goad. At the terminal ends of the spur are circular attachment holes with iron rivets, now heavily corroded, remaining in situ. The object has a pale green-brown patina. It measures 95mm in length, 130.6mm in width and weighs 100.78g. …

Fragment of a leaded copper alloy Post Medieval to Modern spur. The spur comprises of one complete arm and a fragment of the attachment. The second arm is missing due to an old break close to the attachment end. The attachment end curves outwards and splits. Only half of this split remains with a circular hole for a rivet in the centre. The complete arm terminates in a double loop forming a figure of eight (8). Two copper alloy mounts are looped through the figure of eight extending into a trefoil with the lower foil bulbous and extended. A patch of iron corrosion is on one mount.

Post medieval cast copper alloy spur fragment. One terminal and a small fragment of the side remains of the spur, the rest is lost due to an old break. The remaining side fragment is D-shaped in section with a flat back and convex front; the terminal is flat with a rounded outer edge. The terminal is in the form of three broadly circular sections; two smaller outer circles flanking a larger, more protruding circular section. There are incised lines dividing each section. This is attached to the side of the spur on a rough 90 degree angle by the lower section. This section is slightly …

Post Medieval hooked strap fitting from a spur leather strap. It is in two pieces; a copper alloy hooked plate and a seperate copper alloy rivet with a head stud of a different alloy, possibly a high tin content or tombac. The strap attachment end is drop shaped with a rounded top tapering to a narrow strip in the middle. The strip continues into a backward facing hook which is bent in to the back attachment, forming 4/5th of a complete circle. This would have hooked on to holes in the spur terminals to connect the strap to the spur and hold it in place around the foot. The hooked pla…

Cast copper alloy spur rowel of post-medieval date. The rowel is in the form of a five-pointed star, with five points of roughly equal form but variable thickness; one point is missing its tip due to an old break or wear. The points are decorated on both faces with lines of stamped crescents. In between these projecting points are five much narrower and shorted points formed of raised lines which run to meet the central hole. The central hole is oval, probably from wear. There is no trace of gilding. The rowel measures 43.7mm in length, 40.8mm in width, 2.9mm in thickness and weighs 7…
