An incomplete silver seal matrix. The matrix has an ovoid face, from the back of which extends the integral ovoid stem which forms the base of the handle. The stem expands forming a rectangular collar. A triangular knop extends from the collar, indicating that the handle was originally openwork, now lost to an old break. The design on the face shows a tree, or a plant with flowers, with an interlacing root system. When looking face on at the design of the matrix face the roots appear at 6 o'clock, the reversed initials 'E' at 3 o'clock and 'G' at 9 o'clock. The stem then splits abov…

The face of the seal is oval with an incised border and IS inscribed within surrounded by pellets. There are seriphs on the letters with a small line across the middle of the I and the middle curve of the S.
