A copper-alloy folding strap clasp dating to the Medieval period. The frame is broadly rectangular in plan with outcurved top and bottom edges, which are 'D' shaped in section. The bar is rectangular in section and expanded in width when compared to the top and bottom edges. The outer edge is also recessed and is circular in section. Around the outer edge are the remains of the copper alloy rotating (or 'folding') end (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 118) which consists of a sheet of copper alloy bent around the outer edge, expanding in width to a thickened ridge terminal. Copper alloy strap clasp of Medieval date, comprising of frame, plate and clasp. The frame has slightly convex sides and recessed straight ends, with a transverse ridge near each corner on the outer face of the sides. The outer edge of the frame retains a folding (or rotating) sheet clasp in situ. It is wrapped 270 degrees around the bar and about 50% remains, the outer edge is missing to an old break. Medieval cast copper alloy folding strap clasp frame with part of the folding plate. The frame is sub-oval in plan with a straight outer side and strap bar and convex curved upper and lower sides. The outer side and strap bar are circular in section and recessed to take the folding plate and strap plate. The upper and lower sides thicken and widen towards the outer side and have rounded ends; both have raised transverse ridges across the outer side about level with the strap bar and outer bar.
