A complete, lead alloy spindle whorl or weight of uncertain date. The object is circular in plan, plano-convex and with an uneven central perforation running through it. It is undecorated with a mid-gray colouration. It measures 30.0mm in diameter, 14.0mm in height and weighs 44.75g. Lead spindle whorls and weights were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty without supporting archaeological context. A silver-gilt object (incomplete). The object is possibly one half of what was a cylindrical item. What remains is shaped from a rectangular sheet of silver, now rounded to form just less than half of the cylinder. At either end of the object there is a concave border approximately 3mm wide. The body of the object is made of a lattice decoration and at each crossing point is a circular knop. Within the spaces created by the lattice circular holes have been punched. At one corner a large part of the object is missing and the other corner of the same end has also been damaged, but the d…

One face bears inscribed letters, reading 'noe' or 'nae' in lower case letters. It measures 42.6mm in length, 21.8mm in width, 1.9mm in thickness and weighs 13.37g. Inscribed lead scrolls have previously been interpreted as Roman 'curse tablets', however this interpretation is doubtful for this object as the letters appear much later in style that those from the Roman period. It is possible that the object was used as a simple label or name tag…
