A copper alloy Roman Dolphin type brooch, dating from the 55 - 100AD. The axis bar, pin and part of the wings are missing and the surface of the brooch is pitted. A circular lead token dating from the post Tudor period, 1600-1800 AD. One side has the letters E P with 5 pellets in relief, the other is blank apart from a faintly incised cross. The token has a diameter of 22.16mm, thickness 2.73mm, weight 9.32g. For reference see Fletcher 2005. Leaden Tokens and Tallies. Roman to Victorian p. 54/55. Tokens like this were probably used as small change because the crown did not produce enough coins. The initial probably refer to the tradesman who issued the token.
