A medieval silver coin: probably an Irish penny of Edward IV (1461-83), Suns and Roses coinage (1478-83), Dublin mint. As is usual with this issue, the coin is short of flan and has been clipped, rendering the legends largely illegible. It is 13.6mm in diameter and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.41gm. The obverse is double struck. The coin is similar to number 6393 in Seaby's Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, but the reverse has three rose in each angle instead of a mixture of roses and suns.

The silver has darkened to almost black as a result of chemical action in the soil. It is 18mm in diameter and 0.8mm thick. It weighs 1.27gm. Reference: North, Vol. 1, Nos. 952-961.
