Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, plano-convex flint knife, dating from c. 2500-1500 BC. The knife is made on dark brown translucent flint, with areas or light grey but no patination. It is bifacially worked, but most of the removals are from the dorsal face. There are large invasive removals in the centre and scalar retouch limited to the edges. There is larger scalar retouch on one side of the ventral face. It is 80.6mm long, 32.8mm wide and 10.5mm thick. It weighs 24.51gm. For reference see Edmonds (1995) Stone Tools and Society, page 159.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Rotherham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint side scraper dating probably dating from the Neolithic. The flint is irregularly shaped and is thick and triangular in section. The bulb of percussion is not evident. There is short abrupt retouch on the right side at the narrower end. The larger removal along that side is probably later damage. The retouch may have originally continued along the right edge. The flint is patinated. It is 28.88mm long, 13.16mm wide and 7.75mm thick. It weighs 2.11g.

An Early Neolithic flint implement; a leaf shaped arrowhead. The arrowhead is kite shaped and is bifacially worked but only round the edges of both faces. The bulb of percussion is at the pointed end of the arrowhead; the other end is truncated by a snapped end, which may or may not be intentional. There is shallow invasive retouch on all edges. The flint has a white patina. It is similar to number 6 in figure 49 on page 124 of Prehistoric Flintwork (Butler, 2005). It is 22.22mm long, 14.84mm wide and 3.27mm thick. It weighs 0.82g.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An Early Neolithic flint implement; a leaf shaped arrowhead. The arrowhead is kite shaped and is bifacially worked across the whole of both faces. Bifacial arrowheads were more difficult to make than other forms, and may have been for show rather than for use, though numerous isolated finds do suggest that they were also used. Compare number 5 in figure 49 on page 124 of Prehistoric Flintwork (Butler, 2005). The arrowhead is 32.43mm long, 18.67mm wide and 3.22mm thick. It weighs 1.63g. The flint has a white patina.
