A Post-Medieval to early modern copper alloy trade weight. The weight is small and circular, with a raised edge. The reverse is plain. The face has a central incised or stamped circle in the centre. Around this circle are three incised motifs: a letter 'G' surmounted by a crown, a shield of St George and (more faint) a ewer. The ewer denotes that the weight was approved by the Founders Company in London. The Crown with a G is the royal cypher of either George the I, II,III or IV. It was therefore produced between 1714 and 1830 (Bailey, 2000, 'Finds Identified', pages 42-43).

A probable cast copper alloy weight, possibly a plumb bob. It is undated but may be Post-Medieval. The object is hollow and is biconical in shape, with a flat base. There is a semi-circular suspension loop which is D-shaped in section. A collar with two transverse grooves divides the loop from the body of the weight. This collar has partially worn away. There is also a transverse groove two thirds of the way down the body of the object. At the base is an off-centre hole, 3.3mm in diameter. The item is something of a conundrum; it seems odd for a weight to be hollow, and the hole at th…
