A Medieval copper-alloy spanning hook from a crossbow. The object has a thickened hooked terminal with signs of wear at one end of a shaft which tapers to a prominent collar with a single narrow ridge on each side. On the other side of the collar is a triangular loop, now incomplete and distorted, with a flat inner face. The object has a dark green patina with a pitted surface.
Spanning hooks (sometimes called draw hooks) were attached to the belt of the crossbowman and were used to draw back the bow spring while the archer was in a squatting position.

A very worn Post Medieval copper-alloy possible tobacco pipe tamper. The tamper is of baluster form and has a projecting loop on the side and perhaps one incomplete end.
