A Roman copper-alloy brooch with a white metal surface coating. The brooch is openwork and takes the form of two dolphins which support a circular recess which contains a separately mounted facing bust. The bust, which is rivetted to the backplate, is slightly askew, and depicts a clean-shaven male head with short hair, but the facial details are worn. Three pieces of clay tobacco pipe. David Higgins comments: 1. A heel fragment dating from the first half of the nineteenth century with the relief moulded maker's initials WN. Similar examples have been recovered from various excavations in Reading, where they are attributed to the Reading pipemaker William Norris, who is recorded working from at least 1830-1864 (Higgins 2013, 547 & Figs 9.28.34-35). A Post Medieval copper-alloy object, probably a fragment from a pair of scissors. The object has a baluster 'stem' from which emerges a U-shaped frame with narrow flat-sided arms, possibly with incomplete terminals. At the opposite end is a wide rebated terminal with one rivet and the remains of an iron attachment. It may be that the U-shaped frame is a broken and distorted loop from the scissor handle.
