Broad period: ROMAN
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete and bent Roman copper alloy Aucissa brooch, missing its pin. The bow is decorated with four incised vertical lines until the catchplate starts. A perpendicular line separates the vertical decoration from the catchplate section, which is plain until the bottom flares out for a wider rounded foot, which measures 4.8mm. The bow narrows from 8.3mm at the head end to 2.6mm just before the foot. The catchpiece on the reverse of the brooch has broken so the curl which holds the pin is now missing. The break is old and the catchplate is very worn. At the opposite end of the broo…

Object type: PIN
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of decorated copper alloy, probably from a Roman pin. It is cylindral in shape and one third of the length of the fragment is decorated with incised diagonal parallel lines, bordered at either end with double horizontal incised lines. There are breaks at either end of the fragment. It measures 43.1mm (length) x 4.1mm (diameter) and weighs 3.47g. The light green patina of the object, its diameter and the style of decorated strongly suggest it could be part of a Roman hair pin, so it has been given a broadly Roman date.

Object type: TWEEZERS
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete set of copper alloy tweezers with traces of gilding, which date from the Roman to Early Medieval period. One half of the tweezers has broken off after the fold, which has left a hook-like stump. The tweezer is narrower but thicker at the break end (5.0mm x 3.1mm), and has been flattened and widened to create a thin tweezer blade (9.9mm x 1.2mm). The section between the blade and the loop is decorated with horizontal grooves. Traces of gilding can be seen around these grooves and also in a wide groove on the external side of the loop. The incomplete tweezer now measures 6…
