A slightly corroded fragment from a late early-medieval/Anglo-Scandinavian cast copper-alloy cheekpiece (c. 11th century AD). At the end of the head is a rounded knop, perhaps representing a horn. Below are two small lobed protrusions in a row. Relief decoration on the upper surface of the head turns the …

The five surviving lugs are flat and semi-circular in form with a central slightly raised cylindrical knop which is hollow at the top and filled with a bead of blue enamel. The centre is also filled with enamel, within a raised circular gilded ring, which…

A complete copper-alloy pin probably of early-medieval date. The head is globular. It has a maximum length of 5.9mm and a height of 5.1mm. Due to its state of wear and corrosion it lacks any discernible decoration. Below the head is a double collar; the collar is a common characteristic of Middle Anglo-Saxon pins (Geake 2001, 39). The shaft is circular in cross-section and 1mm in diameter below the collar (the collars' diameters are 1.5mm). The shaft itself bends sharply out from the collar, and curves in to a rough 'C' shape, however it is unclear whether any of the bending is origina…

A worn early-medieval cast copper-alloy strap-end of Thomas Class B, Type 1. The attachment end is wedge-shaped and split (max. W.: 7.8mm), but the terminal has snapped off. The upper layer has snapped diagonally, leaving half of one perforation for a rivet. The bottom layer has snapped off horizontally but outlines the base of the two perforations. The field of the attachment end is decorated with three circular facets; two are centred and vertically aligned, the third to the left of the centre. A possible fourth would be in the missing section (creating a pair). The base of the atta…

An almost complete early-medieval cast copper-alloy strap-end (Thomas Class A). The strap-end made from one solid piece of copper alloy with a split terminal at one end. It is this end of the artefact which is broken; the upper edge contains the remains of the two circular attachment hole. The lower plate of the split is mostly gone, with a rough edge remaining. The front face of the strap-end is decorated with silver inlay, however too little remains to distinguish the any pattern.
