Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Greater London Authority
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A post medieval cast lead alloy waste piece with seventeen rough cast pieces of shot attached along the sides. There are large casting seams on the pieces of shot and the central waste is larger than the combined shot; this suggests that the piece has been discarded as mis-cast waste. It measures 80.0mm (length) x 20.2mm (width) x 6.1mm (thickness) and weighs 27.33g.
Although this form of shot casting went out of 'commercial' use in the 18th century it is possible that this is a homemade attempt and could therefore date from the 17th to 19th century AD.

Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Greater London Authority
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A post medieval lead bird cage trough or feeder containing two musket balls. The vessel is complete but very distorted, and would originally have been D-shaped in section, flaring from the base, with a flanged rim. It appears the trough has been flattened, with the musketballs trapped inside.
The trough is undecorated apart from two ridges running around the curve side of the vessel alongside the open edge and another delinearating the flanged rim from the body. The flattened rim measures 79.5mm in length and its edge to the opening is cracked and chipped, particularly on the flat si…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast lead disc shaped uniface mount, of probable post medieval date. The front face has a raised four petalled flower with a pellet in each corner, within two circular borders. The other face is plain. The mount has no obvious means of attachment, but seems too small and thin to be a token. The mount has crumpled, with a section folded over. It measures 14.1mm x 11mm x 1.6mm, and weighs 1.42g

On the reverse of the disc is the impression of the cloth the seal was attached to, and the remains of the integral rivet which held the two discs together. Object type: CLOTH SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
One piece of a post medieval lead two-piece seal, possibly with an anthropomorphic design. The object is sub-circular, with a section missing from the circumference, and the connecting lead strip and opposite piece of the seal has been lost. The uniface design on the seal appears to depict the body of a man and a woman (both naked and missing their heads) on two third of the face, with an underworld? below them; on the right is a ladder from the ground level downwards. It is of uncertain origin, and the complexity of the design is unusual for cloth seals. Cloth seals were in use betwe…

Broad period: MEDIEVAL
