A flint tranchet adze of probable Early Mesolithic date, c 9000-8000 BC . The implement is parallel-sided along most of its length, slightly tapering at the top. The adze is of irregular oval cross section. On either side of the axe the flake removal scars angle downwards from the broad, roughly defined central ridge. The removal of the transverse sharpening flake has created a steep, wedge-like blade. The surface of the flint is mottled, light grey to creamy-white in colour. This type of adze is often described as a Thames pick. The adze is 154.3mm long, 44.3mm wide, 53.6mm wide a…

A mesolithic mircolith, dating from 8300 – 3500 BC. The flake is a tertiary flake with arrises and bulb scars on the dorsal face showing where other flakes had previously been removed. The striking platform and bulb of percussion have been lost due of extensive shattering of the flint, possibly around natural cracks in the material at the proximal end, particularly on the dorsal face. This small flake may have been struck off as a core refreshment flake. There is a small amount of short semi-abrupt retouch on the right edge at the distal end of the dorsal face. This may have been int…
