An assemblage of 8 struck or burnt flints collected from the same field. It comprises: the distal ends of two thin blades (incl. i), of triangular cross-section in pale grey and pale grey/brown flint, a flake (ii) with a bulb of percussion on the ventral surface and a single ridge down the dorsal surface, of triangular cross-section but thicker than a blade, in mottled dark grey flint, a scraper (iii) with a bulb of percussion and scarring on the ventral surface with a small section of cortex and retouch at the distal end forming a convex scraping edge…

A vessel rim fragment in cast copper alloy of probable medieval to post medieval origin. From rim chart assessment, the fragment is probably from a vessel of around 360mm in diameter and thus a cauldron. The rim has a simple expanded flat top, with the pot body reducing in thickness down its depth. The surface is now a coarse mottled dark green/brown.

A copper alloy cast spur rowel of 17th century origin (1600-1660). The rowel is in the form of a five pointed star with small intermediate points between each leg. The central hole has been worn to an oval shape and has an initial diameter of 3.8mm now elongated to 5.3mm. The surface is now corroded to a mid brown with some green copper oxides in evidence. A triangulate worked flint blade of Neolithic origin (3500-2100BC). The ventral surface has a small bulb of percussion with faint trace of the percussion ripples across the surface. The dorsal side has a single lateral edge/dorsal ridge, running the length of the blade with dorsal scarring along much of its length. The cutting edge is formed on the slightly convex side with direct parallel retouch, some of which looks to have been damaged through the passage of time. A medieval hammered silver penny of Edward I (1272-1307AD). This coin is from the 'new coinage' beginning in 1279AD with the non-voided long cross to the reverse. The obverse has the crowned bust facing with a rose on the chest and no double bar to the 'N', indicative of a class 7a thus further refining the date to 1290 - 1293AD. The reverse has the long cross pattée with three pellets in each angle.

A sherd of late medieval to post-medieval coarseware (1480-1650). The sherd is tempered with abundant quartz (<1mm) with occasional larger fragments, it also has pellets of iron ore and clay with sparse fine mica; the outer surface has a pale yellow/brown irregular glaze with a single raise rib. The inner surface is a pale orange/red with a pale pink/red core.

A sherd of probable Midlands purple ware. Made and used between 1450 and 1600AD. This very hard, red to dark purplish core has traces of a dark grey to black glaze on the inside and has a ribbed design to the outer. This material was used for a wide range of different pots, such as jars, bowls and jugs. These hard fired, somewhat plain and serviceable pots were made at Chilvers Coton and Ticknall in Derbyshire.

A flake of dark/light grey banded chert that has perhaps been fashioned into a lithic implement. The convex end has conchoidal re-touch scars to one side, giving this flake a probable use as a scraper. In date this artefact is possibly Mesolithic. Other implements made from this type of material have been found in north Wales and it is suggested that they are of Mesolithic date.

A rough flake of banded chert or flint of probable Neolithic origin. With no sign of a striking platform there is however, conchoidal scarring from re-touch along one edge and curving around part of one end (the left-hand edge in the right hand image in the photo). In the hand, this has the feel of a side scraper. The material is a banded pale cream/grey colour with some minor inclusion and ferrous staining.

A cast copper alloy medieval to post medieval figure of eight buckle (1485-1600). The buckle is similar in style to the type IIIC-61 from part 7 of Marshall's Buckles Through The Ages but with the addition of incised decorative cuts around the whole upper surface. The decoration has file marks that were probably executed post casting. The surface has now deteriorated to a rough dark green and brown patina.

A Charles II (1660-1685) Irish copper halfpenny from Armstrong & Legge's Regal Coinage (1680-84) dated 1683. Obverse depicts the bust to right and the reverse has a crowned Irish harp. The coin is from the small lettering group. The surface is heavily corroded with a mottled brown patina.

A medieval hammered silver cut halfpenny of Henry III (1216-72). As a voided long cross variant, the coin may be dated to 1247-72. The obverse has the crowned bust facing and the reverse has a voided long cross with three pellets to each quarter. The moneyer is WILLEM and given the coin is Henry III, possibly type Vg - the possible mints would be London or Canterbury. The reverse is struck a little off centre and the rim has been clipped.

A hammered silver short cross cut halfpenny of either Henry II (1154-89) or John (1199-1216). The obverse has the crowned bust facing with a sceptre in the right hand. The reverse has the voided short cross with a quatrefoil to each angle. The uncertainty of ruler is due to the moneyer RAV - most probably Rauf and the mint of London, which both Henry II and John have types. The balance of probability goes to John and type 6b.

A cast copper alloy Bronze Age axe fragment. With slightly flared blade tips, the body expands such that this fragment is probably be from a socketed axe, rather than the gentler expanding/narrower blade section on that of a flat axe or palstave. Therefore we may place this axe fragment as probable late Bronze Age (1200-750BC) The surface is heavily corroded with a now rough dark brown patina. There are no signs of wear/use.

Based on the style of the obverse, with a probable count of 7 pellets in the crown and the moneyer RICARD, this coin is probably from Richard I (1189-99). The obverse has the facing bust with sceptre in the right hand and the reverse has the voided short cross with a quatrefoil to each angle. The coin is clipped and the obverse has been double struck.

A post-medieval hammered silver, 'sovereign' type penny of Henry VIII (1509-47). This coin was struck at the ecclesiastical mint at Durham for the benefit of Bishop Thomas Ruthall (1509-23). The obverse has the King enthroned holding orb and sceptre and the reverse depicts the royal shield over cross fourchée with the initials TD over. The coin is in poor condition with extensive clipping to the rim.

A hammered silver post medieval type 3 Soldino from the city state of Venice, circa 1501-1521. The obverse legend is LE LAV DVX S M V (Leonardo Lauredan, Doge. St Mark of Venice.). and depicts the Doge holding banner and kneeling before St Mark. (DVX partially visible in exergue) The reverse has the standing figure of Christ facing, haloed and holding cross with the legend - LAVS TIBI SOLI (Praise to Thee Alone). The coin is in fair condition with the reverse being struck slightly off-centre, there is no sign of clipping.

A cast copper alloy socketed axehead that in style, is consistent with the Sompting type with a prominent bulbous biconical collar with a horizontal moulding beneath. Sompting axes are typical of the Llyn Fawr phase, technically seen as the Bronze-Iron Age transition and sometimes now called the Earliest Iron Age (800-600BC). The axehead has a sub square section mouth. The fixing loop is then drawn from the lower moulding to extend 24mm down the side moulding with an inner diameter of 8mm.
