Base sherd from a vessel of a pinkish buff fabric with quartz inclusions. A yellow glaze survives in patches on the interior and exterior surfaces. Although this sherd resembles medieval Tees Valley ware, there is partial brown slip decoration visible under the glaze on the exterior, showing that it is a base fragment of a Staffordshire-type slipware mug. It therefore dates to the late 17th or 18th century.

Medieval ewer spout in the form of a seated lion. While these spouts usually take the form of dogs heads, this example is a full body version. Lined decoration around the shoulders is suggestive of a mane, therefore making this a lion rather than a dog. The snout of the animal is short and the ears are short and pointed, further indicating a cat-like creature. A hole of circular section runs through the lion from the hindquarters to the mouth, from which it projects in the form of a tube.
