Unidentified object, possibly designed to serve as a seal. The item consists of a sub-oval lead plate with three incomplete prongs projecting from one edge. The reverse has an incised oval line around the perimeter and the front has the impression of the obverse of a coin of Queen Anne, a guinea or shilling based on the size showing a bust of Queen Anne with ANNA DEI GRATIA (in reverse) inscribed around. Several examples of such lead coin impressions are already recorded on the PAS database but their use is not certain. They could be seals, tokens, weights or moulds. This one h…

Undated lead-alloy probable weight, possible of uncertain date. The weight is bun-shaped (like a doughnut) being a flattened spherical shape with a circular opening (8mm diameter) which is depressed around the edges on both faces so that the hole is hour-glass shaped in section. Such simple lead weights are notoriously difficult to date and may have served a number of weight-related tasks, not just loom related.

A lead uniface token dating to the period AD 1250 to 1800. The object is flat and sub-circular in plan and decorated on one side with a pattern of raised lines and pellets possibly intended to be a crown or illegible initials. Lead tokens are difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval to Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, c. 1600-1800 as increasing numbers of dated tokens are found. The thickness of this particular 'token' (5mm) could indicate use as a weight but the present …

A complete but worn large flat circular chunky lead alloy probable seal. The reverse of the seal is plain and the front carries an indecipherable inscription around the perimeter which starts with an initial cross and a central design which consists of a cross design with a fleur de lys in each angle. The centre of this cross may have formed the attachment point for this seal to an item such as a document and this possible attachment point is also visible on the reverse. This seal has been dated broadly to the later Medieval period as c.1200-1500.
