Triangular fragment of a Roman tile c. 65mm by 80mm by 90mm, and 31mm thick, stamped with a mark for Legio II [Augusta] - CFG II [ ] = LEG II [ ]. It weighs 150g. It is known that by the late 4th century Legio II Augusta was based at Richborough (Rutupiae) in Kent (information from the Notitia Dignitatum). This tile, found in close proximity to Richborough does support the literary evidence. However, The Notitia does not suggest when the legion moved to Richborough from Wales. A ceramic / terracotta coin mould for the production of forgeries of Roman coins. It is probably the mould for the reverse of a Severan period denarius (c. AD 193-235), although it is possible that it is for the reverse of a radiate (c. 260-96) - it is not for a 4th century nummus. The mould is cylindrical. The coin impression is just below centre.
