A medieval terminal, pin or lace-tag, in the form of a short, circular-section socket with a polyhedral head. Each facet of the head is engraved with a simple design enhanced with a niello inlay. The socket flares slightly to its base where it is pierced and an internal rivet is held in place. This clearly acted as a form of attachment either for a leather strap or a length of textile, suggesting that the terminal is a type of lace-tag; alternatively, the rivet might have secured the terminal to a thin rod possibly serving as a pin or pointer. Parcel-gilt terminal in the form of a semi-naturalistic boar's head with garnet eyes. The boar's head is cast with an elongated head and blunt ended snout. This is defined by three grooves which are gilded. Above these, the mouth, also gilded, is broadly drawn using linked grooves which end in sharply pointed tusks. The eyes, set high on the head, are small and made using tiny oval cabochon garnets set in a double collar of beaded gold filigree. Well above the eyes are two semicircular eyebrows cast in relief and set to either side of a raised crest which divides the skull. The skull i…

Penannular gold ring with thick hoop tapering slightly to flat terminals. The ring has decorative narrow banding in yellow and paler gold but this is extremely worn especially on the external surfaces. The interior of the hoop is flattened. Visual inspection suggested that the piece comprises a gold covering over a base metal core; some green corrosion products are visible and there is slight lifting of the covering.
External diameter 17.5-19.5mm; internal diameter 6mm; breadth 7.5mm; weight 11.86 grams.

Bronze Age gold ribbon ornament from Ilam, Staffordshire
Description
Two joining fragments form a parallel sided strip, or ribbon. One end is a neat flat-ended terminal with rounded corners, the other is a ragged break. The back is flat, while the front carries twenty-one very finely incised grooves aligned longitudinally. These are evenly spaced, but the outer rims are slightly broader in places. The grooves stop a little short of the terminal. In addition to the main tears, the strip is a little contorted with a partial tear from one side and two tiny drill holes have been not…

Penannular, hollow gold bracelet, originally of circular or near-circular cross-section (now distorted); the body expands very slightly at the one extant terminal (the other is missing). The terminal has a cap which was made separately. The piece was made from thick gold sheet rolled into a tube; the long edges might originally have been neatly butted (slightly overlapping at the terminals) but have now parted in places, and overlap in others where the bracelet has been crushed.
Length 162mm if straightened; diameter as distorted 70x44.5mm; diameter at terminal 9.2x8.9mm; weight 35…

Description: A gold biconical bead from a necklace, made from a single coiled length of plain unbeaded wire. Both ends of the wire appear original; one is neatly tapered and the other has a blunter end. The coils are soldered together, but there does not appear to be an internal backplate to which the wire is soldered, as there are occasional cracks through which the solid soil infilling can be seen.
The bead is slightly flattened lengthways and there is an indentation on one side.
Dimensions: It measures 12mm in length and 5mm at its widest, and weighs 1.9g.

A fragment of gold filigree from an unidentified object. It has a flat gold sheet backplate, torn along every edge, with a design of one or two incomplete intertwining Style II animals. The bodies of the animal(s) are made from made from 'carpets' of parallel twisted unbeaded wires, set in groups of 6, 7 or 8, generally in pairs to make three or four imitation plaits. There are also some larger-diameter beaded wires, perhaps representing interlacing limbs, and two raised undecorated pear-shaped elements which must represent hips or shoulders. Because the object is incomplete, it is …

Gold ornamental ring from Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds This gold ring, found apparently in 1887, is formed of a central cross within a lobed frame. The back of the bezel is flat. In the absence of any comparable pieces in the British Museum collections it has not proved possible to identify the age and origins of this ring. In these circumstances, there is not enough evidence to show that it is more than 300 years old. As this find was discovered pre-1997 we must evaluate it under Treasure Trove laws rather than the Treasure Act 1996. Under Treasure Trove, evidence would have to point to th…

Fragmentary Gold Fitting (?)
This thin gold strip has suffered much damage making identification extremely difficult. The raised decoration, visible on the reverse, suggests that it is most likely a fitting of some kind rather than a finger ring. In its present state it is impossible to date it with any accuracy but it is not thought to fall within the Treasure remit.

gold circular fitting
This broad flat band has no bevelling or shaping at the edges which one would normally expect in a finger ring, suggesting that it is more likely to be a fitting of some kind.
