There is a double line groove decoration on the sherd's outer face where the vessel's body meets the neck. Probably from a storage jar with a narrow mouth.

There is a characteristic black slip finish although this is very worn. The sherd is largely plain with two decorative ridges below the rim. Formed part of a shallow dish. Black Burnished 2 was associated with the military market along the northern frontier.

The handle has a central ridge which runs vertically following the form of the handle.

The fabric is a light grey colour and there are signs of a darker black slip although very worn. There is cross-hatching decoration on the outer face of the sherd. There are few tiny quartz inclusions and mica is also present. Formed part of a small bowl or jar. Black-Burnished 2 could be found at the northern frontier by the end of the second century despite its production in the south-east of the country (Bedoyere 2000 page 49).
