Lead Medieval spindle whorl.
Circular in plan with a central circular perforation. It is biconical with cast decoration on both faces. One side has diagonal lines from the centre to the edge, creating triangular cells, inside of each of which there is a circular pellet. The other side is slightly less clear, almost looking like a repeating pattern of VIVIVI all the way around.
There are examples of spindle whorls with writing and pseudo-writing on, this could be another one.

Pottery spindle whorl, Roman- Medieval in date.
The whorl has been formed from a piece of pottery cut from a vessek- probably when the vessel broke. It is circular in plan with a central circular perforation. It is flat on both sides with rounded edges. The fabric of the pottery is black on one side and brown/grey on the other. It is not clear if the black is the actual colour of the fabric or is due to wear/dirt. The fabric is smooth and has few inclusions.

Lead spindle whorl from the Medieval period.
Biconical in shape, it is decorated on both faces in relief. The decoration appears to be the same on both sides although one is more worn than the other. It consists of heart shapes, with the point towards the centre interspersed with raised dots. It has a central circular perforation with a diameter of 9mm.

The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan. The decoration is similar on each face and consists of lines forming a star shape with dots around. One face has dots inside the star shape and outside (6 in total), the other just has them outside the star (4 in total).

It is decorated on both sides with cast decoration in the usual star and dot pattern. A dot in each point of the star and also on the outside of the star.
This type of object has been used for centuries but this pattern would suggest a Medieval date.

Spindle whorls are hard to date precisely as they were used for a long period of time. Therefore this find has been dated broadly to the Medieval period.

The spindle whorl is conical with a rounded top and has no decoration on either face. It still has mud in the central perforation. The whorl is quite roughly made and is uneven on the top.
Spindle whorls were used from the Roman period through until the Post-medieval period and so can be hard to date precisely if there are no distinguishing features.

Lead spindle whorl which has been cast, dating to the Medieval period.
The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan. It is biconical with an equatorial ridge and a central perforation which is set transversely. Both faces are decorated with different patterns. One face is split into sections by lines running from the central perforation to the ridge. Inside each section is a raised dot. The other face is more worn and the decoration is not as clear. It consists of some dots and possible lines but that is all that can be seen.
