Cast copper alloy circular ring, possibly Roman in date. Plain ring with a rectangular cross section. It is corroded and the edges are slightly worn. There are lozenge shaped grooves decorating the outside face of the ring. It could have been a finger ring for a child as it is very small in diameter. Equally it could have been used on a belt or other fitting. The patina of this ring suggests it could be Roman. The edges of the ring are a light green which indicates corrosion. Cast copper alloy Roman lock pin. The shaft is square in section and has broken just below the head. The head is formed of an upside down hollow dome above a disc. The upper dome has a central circular shaft set in it which protrudes above the top. A similar example can be seen in the Colchester report, p.124/5, no.4143.

Roman silver finger ring of semi-circular section and oval profile which swells to a wide flattened bezel, set with an ovoid orange-red carnelian intaglio flush with the bezel; this is engraved with a bird standing left holding a morsel of food in its beak. Scientific examination shows that the ring appears to be hollow but may originally have had a copper core plated thickly with silver which explains its mostly dull grey appearance.

Fragment of a copper alloy Roman bow brooch. Only the lower part of the bow remains, it is tapering towards the foot although the foot is missing. Some of the catchplate is visible on the reverse. On the front are 3 lozenge shaped panels in a vertical pattern. These are filled with orange enamel and the triangles on the edge are hollow as though they used to have enamel in also.

Cast copper alloy trumpet bow brooch, dating to the first century AD. The pin has broken just after the spring. The bow has broken just below the knee of the brooch. At the knee of the brooch is a moulded spherical decoration. The whole surface of the brooch is very worn and fairly corroded, it has a brown patina.

Fragment of a copper alloy Roman bow brooch. The brooch is badly corroded all over, the bow at the bottom is very thin due to this. The pin and the pin mechanism are both missing. It would have been on hinged on an axial bar fittting in the back of the head. Most of the catchplate has broken off but a small part can still be seen. Fragment of a copper alloy Roman bow brooch. The brooch has broken part-way down the bow so the foot and catchplate are missing. The pin and its mechanism have also broken off. The pin would have been hinged on an axial bar fitting into the back of the two tubular extensions of the head. The humped crest of the bow shows it is a dolphin style brooch. There is a central, concave line running down the centre of the bow from the top. Roman bow brooches were in use in Britain from the mid 1st century to the mid 3rd century. This style of brooch mainly dates to the mid-1st century.

Copper alloy Roman trumpet-headed brooch. The main body of the brooch is complete but the pin and its mechanism are missing and the catchplate is broken (although part of it still remains). The pin was held on an axis bar in a recess between two lugs, one of which is broken, behind the large trumpet head. Roman bow brooch with some blue and orange enamel remaining. A derivative of a Wirral/ trumpet type bow brooch. This is an unusual variation and has some nice detail remaining. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Dragonesque brooch. This type of brooch is essentially Celtic in design but is Roman made and continued to be made until the middle of teh 2nd century AD. They are an entirely British type of brooch (Hattatt; 1982; 152). The brooch has a raised surface and a flat back. Two of the heads remain, there would have been three originally. Both the heads are broken, the hole (which represents the eye) is incomplete on both. The semi-circle central part of the brooch represents the body of the dragon and has a circular perforation.

Copper alloy Roman disc brooch dating to the mid 1st century to the late second century AD. The disc is not complete so it cannot be sure whether it was circular or oval. Some of the catchplate and pin mechanism remain but the pin is missing. The front of the brooch is decorated with a raised hexagonal pattern with a small disc at the end of each point. This could be derived from the Roman sunburst pattern. A similar brooch can be seen in Hattatt (1982; 138/9; no.118).

Copper alloy spring from a Roman bow brooch. Only two coils remain with part of the wire being straight, perhaps where it attached to the brooch. This was found in the same field as an incomplete Roman brooch so it is possible that it is from this brooch. The brooch is recorded on the database as LVPL-9A3D92.
