Impression of the obverse of a coin of Tacitus (275-6) in lead. Obverse: [ ]ITVS AVG (retrograde); [ ], draped and cuirassed bust left (would have been right on the original coin). Note, the beard is clearly visible on the chin and neck. It is not possible to determine if the coin used for the impression was a base silver coin with a radiate crown or a gold aureus with a laureate crown. This is a most unusual piece. Because the piece is made of lead it cannot be a mould for making a forged coin in another metal. Nor is it likely to have been a mould for the produ…

A sheet-silver cufflink, circular in plan, with a relief-stamped design depicting two hearts side-by-side below a crown. It is marked by down-turned sides. The lower left-hand portion is slightly damaged and suffers from a gash which bisects the heart in that quadrant. The left-hand side is pinched inward and the rim shorn off. The reverse has a wire loop soldered on in the centre, threaded by a single oval link bearing a maker's stamp (possibly of the letter 'A'), which would have connected to the loop of its now missing partner. Silver seal-die with fluted handle with paired scrolls and single loop handle. Octagonal die engraved with a shield with 3 crosses, 2 above and 1 below a central transverse band which is stippled. The silver appears to be low-grade. Probably 18th Century and may post-date 1708. As such it is impossible to say with confidence that the seal-die is over 300 years old, and it therefore fails to qualify as Treasure in terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
