Roman copper alloy Polden Hill booch fragment. The crest of the head is quite rounded and the bow tapers to a point at the end, although no foot remains. The hinged pin, catchplate and pin mechanism are all missing. The brooch is quite corroded all over but it is quite likely that this brooch would have been plain anyway.

Object type: BELL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire East
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper alloy post-medieval cast spherical ('crotal') bell. It has been cast in one piece and is still complete. The attachment loop is square with a circular perforation. The two halves of the bell are separated by a raised median ridge. The upper half has two circular sound holes on opposite sides. The lower half has a sound slot with circular terminals. Cast spherical bells were used as animal bells over a long period of time in the same style, so precise dating is not possible; it probably dates to the 17th to 19th centuries.

Object type: CARVING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Flintshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A carved stone head, in a light grey coloured stone, possibly limestone. It is carved only on one face with a near-triangular face, triangular nose, heavy almond-shaped eyes and rather gash-like mouth. The other faces are rough and not carved into, it appears that this stone was made to go into a wall. This head was found under the floorboards of a house with two 19th century medicine jars (LVPL-5587A5) and so it is likely that it dates to around that time. However it is very hard to date these type of finds precisely. This style of carving could be attributed to the 'Celtic h…

Gold posy ring from the late 16th to early 17th centuries. Treasure find- 2007-T156. The British Museum curator report- 'Small gold finger ring, slightly out of shape. Foliate design on the external surface and inscribed inside + DON + DAMI, followed by a sprig. Very slight traces of black enamel are visible on both the inner and outer faces.' Discussion: The style of the capital letter inscription compares well with other 16th and early 17th century rings in The British Museum's collection. The precious metal content of this finger ring fulfils the requirements of the …

Lead or gun-metal cast of a Sestertius of Orbiana, wife of Severus Alexander (222-35AD). Type as RIC IV, pt. 2, p. 122, no. 657. It is hard to say whether this is a contemporary or modern copy. Cast coins were produced in the 3rd century, often called "Limesfalsa", singular "Limesfalsum". However, this piece is apparently not made from copper alloy, but from a lead or zinc based alloy. To make a more considered judgement, the Finds Adviser would need to see this coin.
