Lead alloy mount, probably a furniture mount. The mount is circular in plan and has been cast. Some of the edges have been lost either through corrosion or by being broken in use or whilst it was in the ground. The front face is decorated, the back is plain. The decoration consists of a slightly raised central circular boss surrounded by a ring of twisted wire effect. Around this is a line of pellets. The back is free from decoration and the remains of two rivets can be seen on the outer edge.

Cast copper alloy knife end stop dating to c.16th century. It is oval in cross-section. In plan it is rectangular. It is split into sections- there is a central triangle with an oval on each side at the top. The ovals have incised lines in the shape of 'V's as decoration. At the bottom of the object is a slim rectangular projection, possibly to enable the stop to attach to the tang. This appears to be made of iron. A similar end-stop can be seen in Read's book (2001; 83 and 88; fig 56, no.653).

Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy Roman disc brooch dating to the mid 1st century to the late second century AD. The disc is not complete so it cannot be sure whether it was circular or oval. Some of the catchplate and pin mechanism remain but the pin is missing. The front of the brooch is decorated with a raised hexagonal pattern with a small disc at the end of each point. This could be derived from the Roman sunburst pattern. A similar brooch can be seen in Hattatt (1982; 138/9; no.118).

Copper alloy buckle plate from the 13-15th centuries. It is a rectangular frame which has been cast. On the front is a lion/hound passant, regardant (looking back over it's shoulder). There are two rivet holes at the end of the plate, one rivet remains. The plate would have attached to the frame at the other end by hooking over it. There are the remains of two rectangular extensions which have broken. The frame was gilt and this still remains in the background on the front. The background of the front has a stippled effect which would have been added by multiple punching. A simil…

Circular lead alloy weight probably from the Medieval period. The front of the weight has a circular depression in the centre, in which is an 'I'. The depression is surrounded by 2 incised circles which look as though they have been cast in at the time of making the weight. The 'I' appears to have been added later, by hand. The back of the weight is flat and has 2 lines scratched into it. It is likely these have been made through wear, or from the plough once the weight was in the ground. There are chips on the weight which are also likely to be plough damage. No typology has been m…
