There are linear grooves on all the surfaces, possibly caused by sharpening tools. It is difficult to say that this is definitely a whetstone as natural stones could be used for this purpose without much working to make them suitable, this appears to be in that group.

Cast copper alloy circular stud or mount, probably from furniture dating to the Roman period. It is domed in the centre surrounded by 2 raised concentric rings. On the back there was a shaft (rectangular in section) but this has broken off. The hole remains with some iron corrosion so it appears it was an iron shaft. The stud is mostly complete but it is slightly broken around some of the edges. Similar examples were found in excavations at Aldborough (Bishop; 1996; 64, nos. 401 and 406).

Copper alloy Roman disc brooch dating to the mid 1st century to the late second century AD. The disc is not complete so it cannot be sure whether it was circular or oval. Some of the catchplate and pin mechanism remain but the pin is missing. The front of the brooch is decorated with a raised hexagonal pattern with a small disc at the end of each point. Lead or gun-metal cast of a Sestertius of Orbiana, wife of Severus Alexander (222-35AD). Type as RIC IV, pt. 2, p. 122, no. 657. It is hard to say whether this is a contemporary or modern copy. Cast coins were produced in the 3rd century, often called "Limesfalsa", singular "Limesfalsum". However, this piece is apparently not made from copper alloy, but from a lead or zinc based alloy. To make a more considered judgement, the Finds Adviser would need to see this coin.

Fragment of a copper alloy Roman dragonesque brooch. It is the central part of the brooch which remains. The decoration is in relief and does not appear to have had any enamel on it.
