Object type: DRESS FASTENER (DRESS)
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy fastener, probably post-medieval in date. The hook piece of a fastener, possibly for clothing or a belt. It has been cast in one and appears complete but has some iron corrosion on the rounded end. The hook has a sub-square section and leads into a circular part of the object. This is hemi-spherical and hollow although it has been filled by ferrous corrosion and dirt. The upper face of this part is decorated by incised lines and two circular perforations. The back piece was cast integrally and has been bent back on itself across the back of the hemisphere.

Pewter spoon bowl of Post Medieval date. Spoon bowl, probably pewter which is sub-oval in shape. The edges are ragged, probably due to wear in the ground. The bowl has broken away completely from the stem and none of this remains. Near to where the bowl would have attached to the stem is a stamp with the letters RF (or RP). The bowl is corroded on all surfaces. This spoon was found in the same findspot as LVPL-E9AF43, another Post Medieval spoon bowl.

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cooper alloy Medieval circular buckle. The brooch frame is complete but the pin (although still attached) is broken. The pin does not appear complete as (even if it were not in two pieces) it would not be long enough to reach the full diameter of the buckle frame. The buckle frame is plain with no decoration. The buckle is similar to those found in excavations in London which date to c.1270-1400(Egan and Pritchard; 1997; 57-58).

Object type: PILGRIM BADGE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead pilgrims souvenir from the Medieval period. Incomplete badge of a figure which has been cast. Perhaps part of an angel's wing from a trinket symbolising the Virgin. Similar examples can be seen in Spencer's book of London finds (1998; 159-60; nos. 176d and 177). The robe is decorated, the pattern was cast in. It is similar in style to other badges which have been dated to the second half of the 15th century- early 16th century (Spencer; 1990; 52/53 and 83/84).

Copper alloy leg of a Medieval vessel such as cauldron or skillet. The object is anthropomorphic in style, representing a human leg and foot. The leg is triangular in section. Above the foot is a protruding lip, the foot is then flat on the floor. A leg of the same style was found in York and dates to the late 15th- early 16th centuries (Ottaway and Rogers; 2002; 2809-10) but similar styles continued until around the 18th century.

Lead Weight probably Medieval or Post medieval in date. Weights are very difficult to date as the same form/design was used for a long period of time. This weight is circular and has no decoration. There are some scratch marks but these are from damage through use or its time in the ground. On both sides there is a central circular hollow- it could have been a hole all the way through but this is unclear due to corrosion and mud.

Copper alloy rectangular shoe buckle with drilled holes for a separate spindle, c.1720-90. The frame is complete but the spindle and pin are missing.
