Cast copper alloy circular ring, possibly Roman in date. Plain ring with a rectangular cross section. It is corroded and the edges are slightly worn. There are lozenge shaped grooves decorating the outside face of the ring. It could have been a finger ring for a child as it is very small in diameter. Equally it could have been used on a belt or other fitting. The patina of this ring suggests it could be Roman. The edges of the ring are a light green which indicates corrosion. The main surface is a brown colour due to mud. Rings of this plain form are hard to date and assign a function …

The exterior decoration consists of raised diagonal ridges which have punched annulets along them in a irregular manner. The three panels are separated by two sections decorated with a plain central bar and a number of vertical strokes. The ring is distorted into an oval shape. The complexion of the ring is very rough and indicates little wear and surprisingly little abrasion from its time in the ground. Silver finger ring. This find went through the Treasure process but was declared not treasure. Description: The ring consists of a hoop of plano-convex section which expands at the front to form a slightly ovoid bezel. The latter is punch-incised with three letters, possibly to be read in reverse order as the last on the right appears to be a reversed 'G'. The first letter is a 'T' and the central one is a vertical line with a slash through it, forming a rune-like character, although it is uncertain if it was intended to represent a rune as such, or some other letter. On the righ…
