2 small rolls of lead sheet, unkown date and function. The upper one (in the image) has a weight of 11.3g, is 36.73mm long and has a diameter of 10.30mm. The lower one (in the image) has a weight of 11.4g, is 31.19mm long and has a diameter of 9.41mm. The Romans did have curse tablets which consisted of writing a curse on a small piece of lead sheet and then rolling it up before offering it to the gods, many have been found in the spring at Bath. As stray finds, out of context (and still rolled up) it is difficult to say whether these are Roman curse tablets or just pieces of…

Lead item, possibly an impression from coins. It is an irregular shaped piece of lead, convex on one side, which has no decoration/marking, and flatter on the other side, which appears to have impressions of three circular items, perhaps coins. Sam Moorhead comments 'At the moment it is difficult to tell much about this item, but it is worth recording for the future comparison in case similar items are discovered'.

Lead weight, of uncertain date. It has a thick iron core which has a circular section and has started to corrode and lose its shape. The weight itself is conical in shape with a flat upper and lower edge. The lead is a dark grey which suggests it is not pure lead.

Lead or gun-metal cast of a Sestertius of Orbiana, wife of Severus Alexander (222-35AD). Type as RIC IV, pt. 2, p. 122, no. 657. It is hard to say whether this is a contemporary or modern copy. Cast coins were produced in the 3rd century, often called "Limesfalsa", singular "Limesfalsum". However, this piece is apparently not made from copper alloy, but from a lead or zinc based alloy. To make a more considered judgement, the Finds Adviser would need to see this coin.

Circular lead weight which has the Roman numberals VIII inscribed in the top surface. In section the weight is domed. It is possible this is Roman due to the numerals but no typology has been made of weights from known contexts so it is difficult to assign a specific date.

Impression of the obverse of a coin of Tacitus (275-6) in lead. Obverse: [ ]ITVS AVG (retrograde); [ ], draped and cuirassed bust left (would have been right on the original coin). Note, the beard is clearly visible on the chin and neck. It is not possible to determine if the coin used for the impression was a base silver coin with a radiate crown or a gold aureus with a laureate crown. This is a most unusual piece. Because the piece is made of lead it cannot be a mould for making a forged coin in another metal. Nor is it likely to have been a mould for the produ…

Lead steelyard weight, probably from the Roman period. It is sub-spherical in shape, with one end narrowing into a rounded point. It has acylindrical iron core which runs the length oof the weight but the loop has broken off. The surface is marked with grooves, most likely caused by the plough from its time in the ground.

Cast lead weight, possibly Roman- Medieval in date. It is conical in shape with a slightly rounded pointed terminal. There is a hole in the base. The surface is uneven and there are some marks where it has been scratched by the plough. There is no sign of an attachment loop so it is unlikely to have been used as a steelyard weight. Weights of this shape and size were used over many periods and so it it difficult to date them more precisely when found out of context.

Cast lead possible Roman weight. It is cylindrical, with a central iron core, which would have become a loop, but has now broken. Roman steelyward weights are usually biconical, not cylindrical but this example does have the iron core like the Roman ones, so it is possible it is Roman rather than Post Medieval.

Lead weight, possibly Roman in date. It is conical in shape with a rounded top and slightly irregular. The flat edge is the upper face and this has a central depression- possibly where an attachment loop once was. The surface is irregular all over due either to corrosion or poor casting of the weight. It was too heavy for my scales which go up to 200g. It has a length/height of 43.36mm and a diameter of 41.70mm.

Possible lid or cap made of lead, probably Roman. The top of the object is circular in plan and there is a raised edge. Inside the raised edge, in relief, is an animal, possibly a cockerel. On the back the edges have folded in on themselves so they would no longer fit as a lid.
