Medieval lead spindle whorl.
It is circular in plan with a central circular perforation (diameter of which is 9.85mm) and is biconical. Each face is decorated with cast, relief decoration. On one face this takes the form of a six pointed star, at each angle there is a straight line, then in each section created by these lines is a circular raised dot. The other face is split into five sections by lines radiating from the centre, in each section are three circular raised dots.

Cast lead spindle whorl from the Medieval period. It is slightly darker than usual, suggesting some tin is in the metal. It is bi-conical in shape and has a central circular perforation.
It is decorated on both sides with cast decoration in the usual star and dot pattern. A dot in each point of the star and also on the outside of the star.
This type of object has been used for centuries but this pattern would suggest a Medieval date.
