Silver long cross penny of Medieval date. It is a continental imitation of an Edwardian type penny, Mayhew no 24. It was produced in the name of John of Avesnes, Count of Hainaut (1208- 1304) and dates to just before 1300. It was minted at Valenciennes and has been double struck.
