Button and loop fastener or strap terminal Possibly a fragment of a mis-cast copper alloy button and loop fastener or strap terminal. This object consists of a single flat leaf-shaped panel, with a central raised circular moulding, concave in the centre, with central pip, possibly a setting for a stud. At one end, the remains of what may have been a second leaf-shaped panel remain, but this part of the object is broken and mis-cast. Parallels: This object is very similar to a fragmentary example of the 'button' from find no. 10, and may perhaps have been part of a pair to this…

Strap fitting/ Mount Fragment of a cast copper alloy mount, possibly related to harness. This object appears to be broken, and perhaps also mis-cast, making the original form difficult to discern. The body of the mount is rectangular, with a two-part rectangular strap bar on the underside. A projecting segment which may have been an extension on the side of the rectangular body of the mount is now broken. On the upper side of the rectangular plate, at each end, project two circular-sectioned studs with circular heads. Parallels: No direct parallels have been found for the form …

Strap fitting/ Mount Fragment of an enamelled cast copper alloy mount. The long edges of the rectangular plate have a lip projecting downwards. The object is broken along both of the shorter sides. The upper surface is decorated with inlaid enamel. This is laid out in a symmetrical herringbone pattern, on either side of a central dividing line. Traces of enamel remain. The mount has a rectangular-sectioned pin projecting on the reverse, in a perpendicular…

Copper alloy fragment, possibly of a Medieval mount. It has a pointed loop at one end, set perpendicular to the body. This appears to be the original terminal, the opposite end is broken. Next to the loop is a small neck before an oval flat section which then narrows to a small, circular sectioned shaft, broken at the end, which led to the rest of the object.

Cast copper alloy Roman vessel mount in the form of a human head, possibly representing Cupid, 1st- 3rd century in date. It is domed and hollow on the reverse. The mount has a small broken loop on the top of the head, the front part of which has been decorated to form part of the hair-style. The loop would have been linked to the mounts use, possibly allowing a handle to be suspended from it. Copper alloy silvered mount from a Limoges cross or casket. A hollow-backed half-round standing figure. The head extends out of the body; the features are crudely defined with circular hollows for the eyes (which may have had insets in) and a raised sub-triangle for a nose. The mouth may have been a grooved line but this is not clear. The body has raised lines leaving cells which would have been filled with enamel. On this example they are quite abstract but from other more realistic parallels it is clear that they are meant to represent a robe. The upper half of the body is separat…

Cast copper alloy belt fitting, probably a sword hanger, from the Late Medieval period. It is linear in form and appears complete apart from the rivets which are missing. It has a thin, rounded terminal extension. It then widens to the main section which is rectangular in plan with a curved hollow profile. There is a circular perforation at the top and bottom of this section which would have held rivets to attach the fitting to the belt. Below the upper hole is a raised horizontal band as decoration. This section ends by narrowing into a hook which curves back in front of the fitti…

Cast copper alloy Medieval decorative mount. The mount is irregular in plan as the top section is broken. It was probably meant to be circular when complete. The front has has a lion passant right, the reverse is plain and flat. The lion is in relief and its legs reach the very edge of the mount. There are irregularly shaped holes in between the lions legs, one in front of it and two above its rear end. It has been gilded but most of this is now missing. There are no obvious remains of rivets, they were probably placed through some of the holes and have broken off.

Cast copper alloy head from a Limoges style figurine of Medieval date. It is a fragment of a mount from a processional cross, dating to circa AD 1200 to 1300. The mount is in the form of the crucified or 'suffering' Jesus, and would have been attached to the processional cross in the centre at the top. On his head is a crown which would have had three rises to it; one at either side and one in the centre. Only the left hand side one remains. Jesus's head is shown angled slightly to his right, and his face is shown with a sorrowful expression. His eyes are circular hollows. Hi…
