Most of the gilding is still present but it is patchy. The central setting is domed and rises out of the front of the brooch into a point. It is an open-loop buckle with a circular loop for attachment to the plate at the base. Only one side remains of the buckle. Decorated with punched circles all over the front. The back is flat and plain. At the top where the buckle is broken is a stylised dolphin head. This buckle would have been symmetrical with another dolphin head facing this one and a similar terminal and loop at the base.

Silver Venetian soldino from the Medieval period. The flan has broken. The legend is unclear and so this cannot be narrwoed down to a specific Doge. The soldino was known as the galyhalpens (galley-halfpence) as it was brought by the annual Venetian trading fleets. The soldino was about the size of English halfpennies and was popular because of a contemporary lack of small change: soldini in fact occur as English finds more often than proper halfpennies of the period
