Copper alloy buckle plate from the Medieval period. It is a sheet plate, only the front half. It would have been a folded sheet but has broken so the back is missing. At one end are two circular rivets, one in each corner. The other end is recessed in the middle for the pin to fit. The front has a pressed decoration, possibly meant to represent a bird such as a peacock with a long tail. The head is circular and leads to a narrow neck. The body is oval shaped and then the tail is formed from a spiral.

Copper alloy sheet buckle plate from the Medieval period. It is made from a sheet of copper alloy which has been folded in half. On the front there is a quadriped (probably a dragon) facing left in relief. There are 2 rivets at the end which hold the two halves together and would have fastened the plate onto a belt. At the folded end there are just two small sections at the edges, the middle is missing. This would have been folded over the buckle frame and the pin would have been folded over the buckle at this point. This sort of item is usually gilded but there is none visible…
