Early Neolithic flint blade. The blade is trapezoidal in shape and in cross-section. 2 flakes have been knapped from one face, one on each side. One edge of the tool has been worked to give it a serrated edge. The tool has broken and so is incomplete- it would have been longer when it was made.

Roman copper alloy Polden Hill booch fragment. The crest of the head is quite rounded and the bow tapers to a point at the end, although no foot remains. The hinged pin, catchplate and pin mechanism are all missing. The brooch is quite corroded all over but it is quite likely that this brooch would have been plain anyway.

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy early post-medieval dress hook imitation made from one piece of sheet metal. Consists of 3 semi-spherical hollow domes connected by a central flat area. In the central piece is a circular perforation. Each dome is decorated with 3 sets of ring and dot decoration. The hole probably had a backplate with bar and hook rivetted on which has now broken off. It is also possible that this was an unfinished frontplate. A similar example made from lead, but not as complete can be seen at SOMDOR-01C437.

Object type: INDUSTRIAL BY PRODUCT
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
2 pieces of very highly vitrified clay. They are both broken on 3 edges and join together to form one piece. The clay is a dark reddish brown. One piece is triangular whilst the other is sub-rectangular. The clay has quite a lot of inclusions in, pieces of stone (quartz) about 2mm in size. The high level of vitrification suggests they were used in a high temperature industrial activity such as metalworking or glass working. The fact that it is vitrified and vesicular on both sides suggests it was used inside a furnace as some sort of support, rather than being part of the furnace wa…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead trapezium shaped weight. The surfaces are not smooth- probably due to corrosion and wear. All the edges and corners are rounded. No typology has been made of weights so they are very difficult to date precisely. This is most likely to date to the Medieval or Post-Medieval periods.

Lead weight in the shape of an acorn. The weight appears complete but there is the remains of some iron corrosion at the wider end. Also at this end is a small hole. This could be the remains of an attachment. These weights have not been put into a typology so they are very hard to date precisely. This one probably dats to the Medieval or Post-Medieval periods.

Circular lead alloy weight probably from the Medieval period. The front of the weight has a circular depression in the centre, in which is an 'I'. The depression is surrounded by 2 incised circles which look as though they have been cast in at the time of making the weight. The 'I' appears to have been added later, by hand. The back of the weight is flat and has 2 lines scratched into it. It is likely these have been made through wear, or from the plough once the weight was in the ground. There are chips on the weight which are also likely to be plough damage. No typology has been m…

A sub-rectangular fragment of a pottery vessel measuring 52mm by 45mm. This is a self-coloured ware (the colour of the glaze has been taken from the pot) and is a light brown glazed colour. The fabric is light orange and fairly hard. This type of pottery dates to around the 18th century. It is possible that this fragment is from the lid of a vessel.
