Lead token, Post-Medieval in date. The token is sub-circular in plan, part is missing and it is bent. On one face is a central circular pellet surrounded by 2 concentric circles. On the other face are the Roman numerals XIII. These types of tokens or weights are difficult to date precisely as they could have been used for many functions and similar items have been used for centuries.

Circular lead token, Medieval/ Post-Medieval in date. The letters AMEN have been scratched into one of the surfaces, they are crude in style. They appear to have been added to the token/weight after it was cast. Lead tokens like this could be used for weights or as gaming pieces, they are common metal detector finds and are difficult to date accurately.

Lead circular token which is decorated on one side. the decoration is in relief and consists of a central circle with the outer edge split into cells. Inside each cell and the central circle is a raised dot. This type of artefact could be used as a gaming piece or a token or weight. It is very hard to date these as they used similar forms throughout the ages.

Sub-circular lead token, probably medieval. It has been mis-struck as the design is not central. It has writing on both sides which appears to be in the cyrillic alphabet which suggests it comes from around Russia. It is probably a trader's token and this would explain how it was found in England as Hartlepool was a trading port. The crossed keys design is used as the symbol of St. Peter, the gatekeeper of heaven for the Catholic faith. This could indicate that the company who made this token wanted to be associated with religion.
