Cast copper alloy Roman bell-shaped stud.
It is complete with the remains of a rectangular iron shaft at the top. The edges of the stud are worn.
Lots of these bell-shaped studs were found at South Shields Roman fort (Allason-Jones and Miket, 1984).

It is mostly complete although the edges are slightly worn. There is a lump of iron corrosion on the top of the stud, probably from the iron shaft which would have attached the stud.

Cast copper alloy and enamelled Iron Age/Roman stud.
It is circular in plan and is decorated with a grid which is filled with red and yellow enamel in alternating squares. The grid is marked by raised lines of copper alloy. There are four rows of four squares. The stud is slightly domed. On the reverse can be seen the remains of a circular stud in the centre. This has now broken and on either side is a circular hole.

It is circular in plan, domed and hollow on the reverse. The front has concentric grooved circles with a central raised nipple. There is the remains of a circular stud on the reverse.
This sort of stud could be used on furniture, harness or belts.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval belt stud, 16-17th century.
In plan it is a six-petalled flower, it has been gilded on the front. The central circular part of the flower is domed and solid. The edges of the flowers are decorated with a line of punched dots all the way around. On the reverse are the remains of two studs which are bent over and broken.

Cast copper alloy stud which is decorated with enamel, Roman in date.
It is circular in plan and 3.23mm thick. It has recesses on the front face for the enamel. The design is a central four petalled flower with a border on the edge of the stud. The flower has white petals. The field around the flower is empty although it could have held enamel. The border appears to have been made of alternating squares of enamel all the way around, most of the red still remains, the other colour could be blue although very little is visible.

Cast copper alloy and enamel Roman stud/mount.
In plan it is sub-triangular with a flat top and curved sides. It thickens towards the point with the sides becoming wider, sloped and decorated. The pointed end is in the form of a birds head. The front and sides are decorated in ornate multi-cloured enamel.

Cast copper alloy decorative stud from the Roman period in the form of a dolphin.
This is in the form of a dolphin viewed from the side with a flat base which has a single stud at the base. The stud has a circular cross section and is placed centrally under the body of the dolphin. The dolphin's nose protrudes out in front of the head and is lower than the head, ending in a rounded point. The eyes are visible as small circular grooves on each side of the head. Cast copper alloy Roman furniture fitting. It is a bell shaped stud with a rectangular handle/shaft set on the top. The stud has a small central protrusion which is like the clapper of a bell. Cast copper alloy Roman stud (c.AD43-410). It is a bell shaped stud which has lost part of its circular stud and also the handle. The handle base can be seen on the top of the stud as a raised circle.

Cast copper alloy part of a Medieval swivel, from the later Medieval, c.1300-1500.
It is only one part, being a D-shaped loop which would have attached to an identical loop via a loop. On the flattened side there is a circular hole which is where it would have attached to the other sections. On either side of the hole the loop terminates into stylised animal heads with their mouths open, the flattened side being held in their mouths. The loop narrows away from the flattened edge.
The loop measures 26.08 x 24.51mm and the flattened edge is 7.09mm in width.

Cast copper alloy Roman strap slide, dating from the 1st- 3rd centuries AD.
It is circular in plan and domed, being hollow on the reverse. Its edges are slightly broken but other than that it is complete. It is decorated on the front with a raised triskele motif which was cast integrally. In the centre and at the end of each arm there is a circular dot as extra decoration. The strap slide has a rectangular loop on the reverse to fix it onto the strap.

A hooked tag or hanger, probably from a sword belt. It is mostly complete, the body comprising of two rounded segments, the hook at one end, the other widening out into an openwork section which has now broken. At the end near the hook are two circular perforations. In the second section, near the middle of the body are another two circular perforations. It is lozenge shaped in plan with an openwork design. The outer edge is decorated with a single row of red enamelled dots, some of which are missing the enamel. The central section looks like a 'swash-N' (as described by Macgregor, 1976) which consists of a 4-armed motif with each arm meeting a corner of the lozenge. It is circular in plan and the front is slightly concave. On the reverse is a small semi-circular loop, used for attachment to the belt or other clothing. The surface is pitted all over with corrosion. These items are usually associated with the military and can date from the entire span of the Roman period.
