Cast copper alloy trumpet brooch dating c.75-175 AD. It is a sprung type, mostly complete with the pin having broken close to the head. The head is the typical rounded trumpet shape, hollow on the reverse to hold the spring. It also has a hook on the reverse to hold the spring in place. Lead weight, possibly Roman in date. It is conical in shape with a rounded top and slightly irregular. The flat edge is the upper face and this has a central depression- possibly where an attachment loop once was. The surface is irregular all over due either to corrosion or poor casting of the weight. It was too heavy for my scales which go up to 200g. It has a length/height of 43.36mm and a diameter of 41.70mm.
